McCain’s Silly Season of Politics
Obama’s Response from the AP story:
Obama quickly answered back while campaigning in Ohio. “I do know that al-Qaida is in Iraq and that’s why I have said we should continue to strike al-Qaida targets,” he told a rally at Ohio State University in Columbus.
“But I have some news for John McCain,” Obama added. “There was no such thing as al-Qaida in Iraq until George Bush and John McCain decided to invade Iraq. … They took their eye off the people who were responsible for 9/11 and that would be al-Qaida in Afghanistan, that is stronger now than at any time since 2001.”
Obama said he intended to withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq “so we actually start going after al-Qaida in Afghanistan and in the hills of Pakistan like we should have been doing in the first place.”
While he praised McCain as a war hero and saluted his service to the country, Obama said the Arizona Republican was “tied to the politics of the past. We are about policies of the future.”
Noting that McCain likes to tell audiences that he’d follow Osama bin Laden to the “gates of hell” to catch him, Obama taunted: “All he (McCain) has done is to follow George Bush into a misguided war in Iraq.”
Obama’s Campaign Hits One Million Mark
From Barack Obama:
Early this morning, we reached one million people owning a piece of this campaign.
Think about that for a minute.
One million people like you own a stake in a grassroots movement that is not just competing, but thriving, in a political process that’s been dominated by special interests for far too long.
You have given your time, energy, and passion to bring about change.
And it’s working.
I cannot thank you enough for all you’ve done, but there are still millions of Americans who remain on the outside of the political process. They are skeptical of politicians and disillusioned by the partisan gridlock of Washington, D.C.
Right now, we have an opportunity to reach out to those people and show them that the change we need is possible.
Talk Show Host Drives McCain Bus into Ditch
Bill Cunningham is livid with Senator McCain. He says McCain threw him under the “Straight Talk” bus. Who is this guy, anyway? Cunningham’s job the other day was to fire up the crowd at a McCain event. The conservative talk show host (as he’s known in all the AP stories) slammed Obama with this speech:
Senator McCain of course correctly distanced himself from the comments and apologized. (Have someone else do your dirty work and then disavow approval of it). Now Cunningham is livid with McCain and says his repeated use of the full name of Senator Barack Hussein Obama didn’t have any racial overtones. Cunningham says Obama should be proud of his Muslim heritage. Yeah, because that’s why he was bringing it up.
No wonder Cunningham’s voting for Hillary Clinton. That’s the same stunt she pulled when her campaign released the photo of Obama wearing African garb. “What? Someone might think we were implying he was a Muslim? Now, why would anyone care if he was a Muslim? He should be proud of his heritage,” says Hillary with a straight face. I think Cunningham, Coulter, and Clinton (the three Cs!) are perfect for each other.
The Clinton Campaign’s Alternate Universe
A searing article from the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank is a must read. She points out what Saturday Night Live (a respected journalistic vehicle used by the Clinton Campaign to make their points) failed to do: the Clinton’s are done. Everybody knows it except for them. It is fun to watch them make fools of themselves, though. That’s funnier than any SNL skit.
MuslimGate: Obama’s Robe, Hillary’s Scarf
I think the most offensive thing about all of this is what it implies: if you’re a Muslim, you shouldn’t be President of the United States.
UPDATE:
The BBC has investigated the matter further, according to the Drudge Report, revealing that the outfit Obama is wearing has no religious significance. I guess Hillary was trying to “scare” people into thinking Obama is a Nomad?
Slate V – Hillary’s Inner Tracy Flick
Shame on you, Hillary
On Sunday Hillary Clinton made the following statement:
“I could just stand up here and say ‘Let’s just get everybody together, let’s get unified.’ The sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.”
Yes, that’s what we “uneducated” Obama supporters hear when he speaks. “Golly, gee, he sure sounds like he’s a miracle man. If I vote for him it will cure all my problems. Shucks, don’t know why nobody never done run on this platform before. Does he have any snake oil for sale?”
Or, perhaps, we’re tired of the crap politics like the Hillary quote above that seems to permeate everything the Clintons do. It’s nice, for once, to hear someone say that working together will move us in the right direction. I guess Senator Obama could always blame the “vast right-wing conspiracy” for everything.

Politics Gets Dirty?? Get Out!
Knock me over with a feather. Politics gets dirty. Hillary Clinton is once again outraged that someone would use the same tactics on her that she and her husband perfected many many (some would say 35) years ago. She was “visibly angry” today over Obama mailings that say she supports NAFTA. Where on earth would he get an idea like that? Hmmm… Because your husband signed it into law? Because you said it was one of his “biggest accomplishments”? Because as late as 2004 you still supported it? Obama’s off his rocker! Or not. Of course, the funniest part about this whole thing is factcheck.org’s assesment of Clinton’s NAFTA flier about Obama. Let’s just say, he who is with sin should not be throwing stones.
Here’s part of a speech he gave in Austin, TX recently that I liked:
Hillary: Plagarism, Plagarism! Wherefore art thou, Plagarism!
Any hope Hillary Clinton had of squashing Obama at last night’s debate was gained and lost in the span of a nano-second. In what appeared to be the line of the night, arguably, Clinton said she was honored to be on the same stage with Obama. Obama shook her hand, and then she went on to say:
“You know, whatever happens, we’re going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we’ll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that’s what this election should be about.”
What a moment! Until this instantaneous post by Ben Smith on politico.com:
“Several readers, and Obama’s staff, heard an echo in Clinton’s closing line, that the candidates on stage would be ‘fine.’
Clinton Tonight:
You know, whatever happens, we’re going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we’ll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that’s what this election should be about.
Edwards the December 13 debate:
What’s not at stake are any of us. All of us are going to be just fine no matter what happens in this election. But what’s at stake is whether America is going to be fine.”
Ooops. Looks like somebody Xeroxed their closing statement.
Chris Matthews Loses His Mind
It’s one thing to be an aggressive reporter. It’s totally irresponsible to keep hammering away when you’ve made your point, belittling the guest, and making yourself look like an ass in the process.
Witness this spectacle from Tuesday night:
Can somebody please tell me why Congresswoman Tubbs Jones got away without any meaningful “hardball” questions? Chris Matthews failed to exercise any sense of journalistic integrity when he picked on one guest as opposed to the other. As Keith Olbermann pointed out, this wasn’t “Hardball.” This was MSNBC’s Election Night Coverage.
Should the Texas Senator have more aptly responded? Of course. Should he have been able to detail Senator Obama’s accomplishments in both Illinois and the U.S. Senate? Of course. Will this now be used by the Clinton campaign as “evidence” of Obama’s lack of accomplishments? Of course. Should the Texas Senator have pointed out one of Senator Clinton’s “accomplishments” was authorizing the war in Iraq? Of course.
It is the height of ridiculousness to believe that Senator Obama has no accomplishments and is just some random, good looking, intelligent, well spoken guy that has managed to “dupe” millions of voters. Can nobody look beyond the rhetoric spewed by the Clintons and their supporters to realize that Americans want someone in the White House who will speak to them in an inspiring way? It’s so painfully obvious that the generational gap is at play here. Adults and Senior Citizens always think the young kids are foolish and idealistic. They dismiss them and fail to take them seriously. I’m sure the Greatest Generation said the same thing about the baby boomers.
