UnFucking Believable: Baby Denied Coverage

A baby in Colorado was denied health care coverage because he was too fat. A four month old. The insurance people said because he was in the 99th percentile he was too fat.

“I could understand if we could control what he’s eating. But he’s 4 months old. He’s breast-feeding. We can’t put him on the Atkins diet or on a treadmill,” joked his frustrated father, Bernie Lange, a part-time news anchor at KKCO-TV in Grand Junction. “There is just something absurd about denying an infant.”

My son, who is not a fat ass, thank you very much, was always in the 100th – 110th percentile and he was only breastfed. You can’t overfeed a baby with breast milk. Not possible. To deny coverage to anyone is shameful but in this context it’s even worse. What kind of lunatic country do we live in where that’s even possible? Yes, it’s not that simple, but sometimes shouldn’t it be?
