SNL Takes Down Obama over Nobel Peace Prize

As SNL’s Obama says, “I won [the Nobel Peace Prize] for not being George Bush.” As good a reason as any.

Political Humor Joke of the Day

Republican scare tactics filter into the real debate on health care reform, taking their toll on President Obama’s sales pitch.

Stupid-Gate

President Obama will meet tonight with the Harvard Professor, Henry Louis Gates, and the officer, Sgt. James Crowley, who got into a tousle at Gates’ house leading to Gates’ arrest. President Obama had to call for the high level talks after he said the police had acted “stupidly” in arresting Gates. I think we can all agree the only thing stupid about all of this is that it’s reached a level where the President of the United States has to hold a detente outside of the Oval Office and the one thing the media can’t wait to tell us about is what kind of beers the three men will be drinking. As if the knowledge that Gates will have Red Stripe and Crowley Blue Moon will somehow enlighten the situation and better explain the characters of the two men. The knowledge that Obama will be drinking a Budweiser does nothing other than tell us that he’s playing it safe not wanting to look like an arugula wine drinker.

I for one am glad these talks are happening. Maybe Crowley has some inside tips on how Obama can win the war in Afghanistan. Maybe Gates knows how to solve the housing crisis. Who knows what these three geniuses will come up with. We wait with bated breath.

Manufactured Controversy: Obama’s Laughter

From the Huffington Post:

President Barack Obama appeared on 60 Minutes for an interview with Steve Kroft, and while the session, to the untrained eye, might have looked like a ranging and substantive interview, media figures with more discernment and savvy saw it for what it was: Obama laughing at the hardships of America, forever and ever.

And so, as the keepers of the public trust, they grimly went to work, warning America about Obama’s reckless demonstration of “emotion” and “brief levity” and “humor,” because HOW DARE HE. What sort of rat bastard President would force the cast of MSNBC’s commedia dell’arte show Morning Joe suspend their pleasing lazzi, about sex toys — the important issues of the day — to discuss his loathesome laughter! In this new video by Media Matters, you can see just how this important topic was relentlessly pursued, like the icy grip of death.

When you think about it, Obama walked right in to the media’s trap, because a man laughing, somewhere, in the world? THEIR JOURNALISM SCHOOLING COVERED THAT TOPIC, so burn.

Peabodies, for all of these people, please.

You can watch Obama’s explanation of why he was laughing in this video which shows the full 60 minutes answer, giggles and all.

Letterman: Teleprompter vs. No Teleprompter

David Letterman and the Late Show find a way to resurrect “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches” with a new segment: Teleprompter vs. No Teleprompter.

This is the new thing to use against Obama. Everyone from the AP to the GOP is bringing up the fact that Obama uses a teleprompter as a “crutch.” Of course, we’ll just ignore all those live town halls, debates, meet and greets, and interviews on network television shows that he did sans teleprompter. Obviously, the guy can’t speak for himself.

Barack Obama’s Teleprompter

Obama’s teleprompter even has its own blog now. Maybe if Bush had used a teleprompter he would’ve gone down in history as one of the great Presidents. But then we never would’ve had Great Moments in Presidential Speeches.

A time for global action
By Barack Obama
Monday, March 23, 2009

WASHINGTON: We are living through a time of global economic challenges that cannot be met by half measures or the isolated efforts of any nation. Now, the leaders of the Group of 20 have a responsibility to take bold, comprehensive and coordinated action that not only jump-starts recovery, but also launches a new era of economic engagement to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.

No one can deny the urgency of action. A crisis in credit and confidence has swept across borders, with consequences for every corner of the world. For the first time in a generation, the global economy is contracting and trade is shrinking.

Trillions of dollars have been lost, banks have stopped lending, and tens of millions will lose their jobs across the globe. The prosperity of every nation has been endangered, along with the stability of governments and the survival of people in the most vulnerable parts of the world.

Once and for all, we have learned that the success of the American economy is inextricably linked to the global economy. There is no line between action that restores growth within our borders and action that supports it beyond.

If people in other countries cannot spend, markets dry up — already we’ve seen the biggest drop in American exports in nearly four decades, which has led directly to American job losses. And if we continue to let financial institutions around the world act recklessly and irresponsibly, we will remain trapped in a cycle of bubble and bust. That is why the upcoming London Summit is directly relevant to our recovery at home.
