Democrats Eat Their Young

So I don’t remember a whole lot about what the New York Times was saying when Bill Clinton took office in 1992. I was cognizant of the fact that many people thought the transition was poorly handled and that FOBs (Friends of Bill) had over run Washington and were pissing off everyone in sight. I was also a junior in high school and fairly certain I hated Bill Clinton as I was a Republican.

When it comes to George W. Bush’s first year in office, all I remember is 9/11. It’s eclipsed what I remember people saying about the transition and whether or not it was smooth. I remember John McCain was in there mucking around but I don’t recall an entire editorial section of the Wall Street Journal devoted to how horribly Bush was handling the Presidency.

Which brings me to my question of the day: Do Democrats always eat their young? At a time of unparalleled crisis in our nation, rivaled only in recent years by the 9/11 attacks, you would think the Democrats would be throwing all their weight and support behind President Obama and trying to make his agenda work. Instead, what we’re seeing is a public therapy session in which all Democrats are revealing their deep seated insecurities that Obama really isn’t good enough. Instead of supporting the most popular President in recent memory they’re devoting entire sections of the New York Times on Sunday to telling him, publicly, that they think he’s terrible. That his handling of the government is too slow, obtuse and he’s too ambitious. It’s like hearing your Dad say, “Do you really want to try and do a double major? I mean, I think you’re smart and all, but do you really think you can handle both Physics and Chemical Engineering?”

Does anyone realize what a mammoth bureaucracy Barack Obama is dealing with and how he’s trying to jump start it faster than anyone else has and yet it’s wheels are still grinding slowly as if it’s stuck in first gear? (Too many car metaphors in one sentence?) The Treasury Department can’t possibly have all its people in place. Kathleen Sebelius hasn’t even had confirmation hearings yet for Health Secretary. He’s doing all this while still managing to pass a stimulus bill through a Congress, controlled by Democrats, that fought him every step of the way.

I don’t know what Republicans would do in this situation and given the current crop of Republican leaders out there I’m glad I don’t have to find out. I do know that it shocks me that Democrats, in the third month of a brand new Presidency, are already tearing down their own saying the nation lacks “inspirational leadership.” Perhaps it lacks inspirational leadership because the only person saying “Yes we can” is the man who coined the phrase.

Obama Reaches Out to Iran

President Obama sends a message to Iran in honor of Nowruz, the new year in Iran. From the White House:

President Obama released a special video message for all those celebrating Nowruz. Translated “New Day,” Nowruz marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the New Year for millions in Iran and other communities around the world. This year, the President wanted to send a special message to the people and government of Iran on Nowruz, acknowledging the strain in our relations over the last few decades. “But at this holiday we are reminded of the common humanity that binds us together,” he says.

After committing his administration to a future of honest and respectful diplomacy, he continues on to address Iran’s leaders directly: “You, too, have a choice. The United States wants the Islamic Republic of Iran to take its rightful place in the community of nations. You have that right — but it comes with real responsibilities, and that place cannot be reached through terror or arms, but rather through peaceful actions that demonstrate the true greatness of the Iranian people and civilization. And the measure of that greatness is not the capacity to destroy, it is your demonstrated ability to build and create.”

Coach K’s Bitterness Over Obama’s Picks

Update: Obama’s 2010 picks HERE.

Coach K Angry Over Obama's Final Four

Coach K Angry Over Obama's Final Four Picks

Obama’s out with his Final Four picks and Duke’s not in it, but UNC is. You’ll also remember during the campaign Obama chose to go to a UNC practice and work out with the team before the North Carolina primary (instead of Duke). Apparently, all this has left Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski a little cranky and a litter bitter. After hearing that Obama had picked UNC to go into the Final Four (along with Pitt, Louisville, and Memphis) and win the tournament, Coach K betrayed some of his Tarheel jealousies. According to CNN:

“Somebody said that we’re not in President Obama’s Final Four, and as much as I respect what he’s doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets,” Krzyzewski told a reporter from the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Here’s Obama explaining his picks to ESPN’s Andy Katz.

In case you’re really curious, here’s Obama’s original bracket:

Obama’s Final Four

President Obama’s Final Four picks have been revealed. This year he’s going with: Louisville, Pittsburgh, Memphis and North Carolina. Not bad. Last year he got three out of four teams right. He went with UNC, Kansas, Pittsburgh, and UCLA. He picked UNC to beat UCLA in the Championship. We all know KU beat Memphis last year to win. He’s not perfect. Maybe if he keeps picking Pittsburgh every year they’ll end up there some day.  For my part, I have, in at least one pool: KU (why not??), Memphis, OU and Pitt.

Watermelon Mayor Quits

Watermelon Pic Forces Mayor's Resignation

The Huffington Post reports the Mayor of Little Cottonwood Trees, aka, Los Alamitos, CA had to quit after sending out an e-mail with the above picture showing watermelon on the White House lawn. The e-mail said: “No Easter egg hunt this year!” Dean Grose claims he didn’t know about the stereotype of black people and watermelons which makes one wonder why he thought it was a funny e-mail. He just decided to forward it on to everyone else because he didn’t get the joke and hoped someone else would explain it to him?

You can send the mayor any e-mail you think is funny by going HERE.
